Most people knew Kenny from his involvement in the senior section of the club. However he was involved in coaching and refereeing in the mini junior section for several years as well. We coached a team together after I decided I needed a forwards coach. I had completed my coaching courses and knew all about how we had to be “nicey nicey” with the kids, teaching them about sportsmanship, being friendly with the opposition etc. The first thing Kenny did was to teach the kids how to growl !! and the kids loved him from that moment on. His best quote....."remember kids it's not the taking part, it's the winning that counts".

He instilled in the kids how rugby was about having fun as a team and he insisted we take introduce them to touring. Off we went to Dublin, Edinburgh, York, Glasgow and Keswick. It was while on tour in Edinburgh we had a stadium tour of Murrayfield. The kids loved sitting in the changing rooms, walking down the tunnel to the pitch, but not as much as Kenny did! Then it was up to view the Calcutta Cup. This is my favourite photo, Kenny and I with big smiles....well actually we were both laughing as he was trying to pull the cup towards him and I was trying to pull it towards me. The Scottish and English rivalry at its best, between two good friends....isn't rugby a great game.
